 th St\, Independence\, OR 97351\nThis is the 9th edition course. The missi
 on of PHTLS is to promote excellence in trauma patient management by all p
 roviders involved in the delivery of prehospital care. PHTLS is developed 
 by NAEMT in cooperation with the American College of Surgeons' Committee o
 n Trauma. The Committee provides the medical direction and content oversig
 ht for the PHTLS program. PHTLS courses improve the quality of trauma care
  and decrease mortality. The program is based on a philosophy stressing th
 e treatment of the multi-system trauma patient as a unique entity with spe
 cific needs. PHTLS promotes critical thinking as the foundation for provid
 ing quality care. It is based on the belief that\, given a good fund of kn
 owledge and key principles\, EMS practitioners are capable of making reaso
 ned decisions regarding patient care. The course utilizes the internationa
 lly recognized PHTLS textbook and covers the following topics:\n\n 	Physio
 logy of life and death\n 	Scene assessment\n 	Patient assessment\n 	Airway
 \n 	Breathing\, ventilation and oxygenation\n 	Circulation\, hemorrhage an
 d shock\n 	Patients with disabilities\n 	Patient simulations\n\nPHTLS is t
 he global gold standard in prehospital trauma education and is taught in 6
 4 countries. PHTLS is appropriate for EMTs\, paramedics\, nurses\, physici
 an assistants\, physicians\, and other prehospital providers. PHTLS is acc
 redited by CAPCE and recognized by NREMT.\n\nPHTLS COURSE OPTIONS\n\n 	Pro
 vider Course: 16-hour course for EMTs\, paramedics\, nurses\, physician as
 sistants\, physicians and other prehospital providers. Upon successful com
 pletion of the course\, students receive a certificate of completion\, a w
 allet card recognizing them as PHTLS providers for 4 years\, and 16 hours 
 of CAPCE credit. This course may be offered as a classroom course\, or a h
 ybrid course where students take 8 hours of the course online followed by 
 8 hours in the classroom.\n 	Refresher Course: 8-hour classroom course for
  individuals who have successfully completed the 16 hour PHTLS provider co
 urse within the past four years. Current PHTLS provider certificate or wal
 let card required. Upon successful completion of the course\, students rec
 eive a certificate of completion and 8 hours of CAPCE credit.\n 	PHTLS for
  First Responders – PHTLS-FR – Provider Course: PHTLS for First Respon
 ders (PHTLS-FR)is an 8-hour classroom course that takes the world-class tr
 auma care content from the 9th edition of PHTLS and delivers it in a style
  that is relevant to and accessible by first responders\, including emerge
 ncy medical responders (EMR)\, firefighters\, rescue personnel and law enf
 orcement officers. Covering life-saving interventions such as hemorrhage c
 ontrol and airway management\, this course teaches critical trauma concept
 s\, demonstrates skills\, and walks students through potential patient sce
 narios. Course materials include a student manual\, providing students wit
 h access to these important concepts long after the course is over. Upon s
 uccessful completion of this course\, students receive a certificate of co
 mpletion\, a wallet card good for 4 years and 8 hours of CAPCE credit.\n\n
 HYBRID COURSE\n\nHybrid Provider Course: 16-hour course for EMTs\, paramed
 ics\, nurses\, physician assistants\, physicians and other prehospital pro
 viders. Online learning modules provide 8 hours of CE\, followed by the in
 -person class with skills and scenarios for another 8 hours. Upon successf
 ul completion of the course\, students receive a certificate of completion
 \, a wallet card recognizing them as PHTLS providers for 4 years\, and 16 
 hours of CAPCE credit.\n\nREQUIRED TEXT BOOK &amp\; COURSE MANUAL\nThe NAE
 MT requires participants to have the current 9th edition PHTLS Provider ma
 in textbook &amp\; Course Manual. The text will be helpful with preparing 
 for the course and the post-test. Instructions will be provided to registr
 ants on how to order books\, or if they will be delivered at low- or no-co
 st for grant funded classes. If attending a hybrid course\, registrants wi
 ll also need an access code for the online learning modules.\n\nThe NAEMT 
 requires participants to have the current 9th edition PHTLS Provider main 
 textbook &amp\; Course Manual. They are shipped to all participants that c
 omplete the registration process. The text is helpful for pre-course study
  and the post-test. The text includes an access code to complete the onlin

  QUALIFICATIONS:\n\nONLY OREGON LICENSED EMS AND MEDICAL PROVIDERS THAT R
 ESPOND TO ROADWAY CRASHES IN RURAL/FRONTIER AREAS CAN REGISTER WITH THE GR
 ANT-SUPPORTED $50 COURSE FEE. Anyone that does not meet that criteria can 
 contact us regarding an alternate fee arrangement to participate.\n\nThose
  marked with an asterisk (*) are supported by grant funds from the ODOT/DM
 V-Traffic Safety Office. This emergency responder training strengthens the
  care provided by rural emergency responders to vehicle crash victims on O
 regon roadways\; reduces vehicle crash scene times\; and supports the EMS 
 work force by acquiring CE that is applicable to maintain their EMS licens
