DESCRIPTION:Prehospital Trauma Life Support\nREFRESHER Course\nDATE | TIME\
 nLocation: Polk County Fire District #1\n1800 Monmouth St\, Independence\,
  OR 97351\nThis is the 9th edition course. The mission of PHTLS is to prom
 ote excellence in trauma patient management by all providers involved in t
 he delivery of prehospital care. PHTLS is developed by NAEMT in cooperatio
 n with the American College of Surgeons' Committee on Trauma. The Committe
 e provides the medical direction and content oversight for the PHTLS progr
 am. PHTLS courses improve the quality of trauma care and decrease mortalit
 y. The program is based on a philosophy stressing the treatment of the mul
 ti-system trauma patient as a unique entity with specific needs. PHTLS pro
 motes critical thinking as the foundation for providing quality care. It i
 s based on the belief that\, given a good fund of knowledge and key princi
 ples\, EMS practitioners are capable of making reasoned decisions regardin
 g patient care. The course utilizes the internationally recognized PHTLS t
 extbook and covers the following topics:\n\n 	Physiology of life and death
 \n 	Scene assessment\n 	Patient assessment\n 	Airway\n 	Breathing\, ventil
 ation and oxygenation\n 	Circulation\, hemorrhage and shock\n 	Patients wi
 th disabilities\n 	Patient simulations\n\nPHTLS is the global gold standar
 d in prehospital trauma education and is taught in 64 countries. PHTLS is 
 appropriate for EMTs\, paramedics\, nurses\, physician assistants\, physic
 ians\, and other prehospital providers. PHTLS is accredited by CAPCE and r
 ecognized by NREMT.\n\nPHTLS COURSE OPTIONS\n\n 	Provider Course: 16-hour 
 course for EMTs\, paramedics\, nurses\, physician assistants\, physicians 
 and other prehospital providers. Upon successful completion of the course\
 , students receive a certificate of completion\, a wallet card recognizing
  them as PHTLS providers for 4 years\, and 16 hours of CAPCE credit. This 
 course may be offered as a classroom course\, or a hybrid course where stu
 dents take 8 hours of the course online followed by 8 hours in the classro
 om.\n 	Refresher Course: 8-hour classroom course for individuals who have 
 successfully completed the 16 hour PHTLS provider course within the past f
 our years. Current PHTLS provider certificate or wallet card required. Upo
 n successful completion of the course\, students receive a certificate of 
 completion and 8 hours of CAPCE credit.\n 	PHTLS for First Responders – 
 PHTLS-FR – Provider Course: PHTLS for First Responders (PHTLS-FR)is an 8
 -hour classroom course that takes the world-class trauma care content from
  the 9th edition of PHTLS and delivers it in a style that is relevant to a
 nd accessible by first responders\, including emergency medical responders
  (EMR)\, firefighters\, rescue personnel and law enforcement officers. Cov
 ering life-saving interventions such as hemorrhage control and airway mana
 gement\, this course teaches critical trauma concepts\, demonstrates skill
 s\, and walks students through potential patient scenarios. Course materia
 ls include a student manual\, providing students with access to these impo
 rtant concepts long after the course is over. Upon successful completion o
 f this course\, students receive a certificate of completion\, a wallet ca
 rd good for 4 years and 8 hours of CAPCE credit.\n\nREFRESHER COURSE -  T
 he 9th edition 8-hour classroom course for individuals who have successful
 ly completed the 16 hour PHTLS provider course within the past four years.
   Current PHTLS provider certificate or wallet card required. Upon succes
 sful completion of the course\, students receive a certificate of completi
 on and 8 hours of CAPCE credit.\n\nREQUIRED TEXT BOOK &amp\; COURSE MANUAL
 \nThe NAEMT requires participants to have the current 9th edition PHTLS Pr
 ovider main textbook &amp\; Course Manual. The text will be helpful with p
 reparing for the course and the post-test. Instructions will be provided t
 o registrants on how to order books\, or if they will be delivered at low-
  or no-cost for grant funded classes. If attending a hybrid course\, regis
 trants will also need an access code for the online learning modules.\n\nT
 he NAEMT requires participants to have the current 9th edition PHTLS Provi
 der main textbook &amp\; Course Manual. They are shipped to all participan
 ts that complete the registration process. The text is helpful for pre-cou
 rse study and the post-test. The text includes an access code to complete

 TH THE GRANT-SUPPORTED $50 COURSE FEE. Anyone that does not meet that crit
 eria can contact us regarding an alternate fee arrangement to participate.

 e ODOT/DMV-Traffic Safety Office. This emergency responder training streng
 thens the care provided by rural emergency responders to vehicle crash vic
 tims on Oregon roadways\; reduces vehicle crash scene times\; and supports
  the EMS work force by acquiring CE that is applicable to maintain their E
