DESCRIPTION:Prehospital Trauma Life Support\nPROVIDER Course\nDATE | TIME\n
 Location: Polk County Fire District #1\n1800 Monmouth St\, Independence\, 
 OR 97351\nThis is the 9th edition course. The mission of PHTLS is to promo
 te excellence in trauma patient management by all providers involved in th
 e delivery of prehospital care. PHTLS is developed by NAEMT in cooperation
  with the American College of Surgeons' Committee on Trauma. The Committee
  provides the medical direction and content oversight for the PHTLS progra
 m. PHTLS courses improve the quality of trauma care and decrease mortality
 . The program is based on a philosophy stressing the treatment of the mult
 i-system trauma patient as a unique entity with specific needs. PHTLS prom
 otes critical thinking as the foundation for providing quality care. It is
  based on the belief that\, given a good fund of knowledge and key princip
 les\, EMS practitioners are capable of making reasoned decisions regarding
  patient care. The course utilizes the internationally recognized PHTLS te
 xtbook and covers the following topics:\n\n 	Physiology of life and death\
 n 	Scene assessment\n 	Patient assessment\n 	Airway\n 	Breathing\, ventila
 tion and oxygenation\n 	Circulation\, hemorrhage and shock\n 	Patients wit
 h disabilities\n 	Patient simulations\n\nPHTLS is the global gold standard
  in prehospital trauma education and is taught in 64 countries. PHTLS is a
 ppropriate for EMTs\, paramedics\, nurses\, physician assistants\, physici
 ans\, and other prehospital providers. PHTLS is accredited by CAPCE and re
 cognized by NREMT.\n\nPHTLS COURSE OPTIONS\n\n 	Provider Course: 16-hour c
 ourse for EMTs\, paramedics\, nurses\, physician assistants\, physicians a
 nd other prehospital providers. Upon successful completion of the course\,
  students receive a certificate of completion\, a wallet card recognizing 
 them as PHTLS providers for 4 years\, and 16 hours of CAPCE credit. This c
 ourse may be offered as a classroom course\, or a hybrid course where stud
 ents take 8 hours of the course online followed by 8 hours in the classroo
 m.\n 	Refresher Course: 8-hour classroom course for individuals who have s
 uccessfully completed the 16 hour PHTLS provider course within the past fo
 ur years. Current PHTLS provider certificate or wallet card required. Upon
  successful completion of the course\, students receive a certificate of c
 ompletion and 8 hours of CAPCE credit.\n 	PHTLS for First Responders – P
 HTLS-FR – Provider Course: PHTLS for First Responders (PHTLS-FR)is an 8-
 hour classroom course that takes the world-class trauma care content from 
 the 9th edition of PHTLS and delivers it in a style that is relevant to an
 d accessible by first responders\, including emergency medical responders 
 (EMR)\, firefighters\, rescue personnel and law enforcement officers. Cove
 ring life-saving interventions such as hemorrhage control and airway manag
 ement\, this course teaches critical trauma concepts\, demonstrates skills
 \, and walks students through potential patient scenarios. Course material
 s include a student manual\, providing students with access to these impor
 tant concepts long after the course is over. Upon successful completion of
  this course\, students receive a certificate of completion\, a wallet car
 d good for 4 years and 8 hours of CAPCE credit.\n\nPROVIDER COURSE\n\n 	Pr
 ovider Course: 16-hour course for EMTs\, paramedics\, nurses\, physician a
 ssistants\, physicians and other prehospital providers. Upon successful co
 mpletion of the course\, students receive a certificate of completion\, a 
 wallet card recognizing them as PHTLS providers for 4 years\, and 16 hours

 istrants on how to order books\, or if they will be delivered at low- or n
 o-cost for grant funded classes. If attending a hybrid course\, registrant
 s will also need an access code for the online learning modules.\n\nThe NA
 EMT requires participants to have the current 9th edition PHTLS Provider m
 ain textbook &amp\; Course Manual. They are shipped to all participants th
 at complete the registration process. The text is helpful for pre-course s
 tudy and the post-test. The text includes an access code to complete the o

 hose marked with an asterisk (*) are supported by grant funds from the ODO
 T/DMV-Traffic Safety Office. This emergency responder training strengthens
  the care provided by rural emergency responders to vehicle crash victims 
 on Oregon roadways\; reduces vehicle crash scene times\; and supports the 
 EMS work force by acquiring CE that is applicable to maintain their EMS li
