DESCRIPTION:ODOT/DMV-TSO GRANT SUPPORTED\nEMERGENCY RESPONDER TRAINING\nThi
 s class is supported by a grant from the Oregon Dept of Transportation/DMV
  Traffic Safety Office to strengthen the care provided by emergency respon
 ders to vehicle crash victims on Oregon roadways. From this emergency resp
 onder training\, participants are better prepared to provide emergency car
 e to victims of road crashes\; reduce vehicle crash scene times\; and supp
 ort the EMS work force by acquiring CE that is applicable to maintaining t
 heir EMS licenses.\nCOURSE DESCRIPTION\nThis is the 9th edition course. Th
 e mission of PHTLS is to promote excellence in trauma patient management b
 y all providers involved in the delivery of prehospital care.  PHTLS is d
 eveloped by NAEMT in cooperation with the American College of Surgeons' Co
 mmittee on Trauma. The Committee provides the medical direction and conten
 t oversight for the PHTLS program. PHTLS courses improve the quality of tr
 auma care and decrease mortality. The program is based on a philosophy str
 essing the treatment of the multi-system trauma patient as a unique entity
  with specific needs. PHTLS promotes critical thinking as the foundation f
 or providing quality care. It is based on the belief that\, given a good f
 und of knowledge and key principles\, EMS practitioners are capable of mak
 ing reasoned decisions regarding patient care. The course utilizes the int
 ernationally recognized PHTLS textbook.\nQUALIFICATIONS\nONLY OREGON-LICEN
 SED EMERGENCY RESPONDERS THAT ATTEND TO ROADWAY CRASHES IN RURAL/FRONTIER 
 AREAS CAN REGISTER WITH THE GRANT-SUPPORTED $50 COURSE FEE. Anyone that do
 es not meet that criteria can contact us regarding an alternate fee arrang
 ement to participate.\nPHTLS FOR 1ST RESPONDERS COURSE\nPHTLS for First Re
 sponders (PHTLS-FR) is an 8-hour classroom course that takes the world-cla
 ss trauma care content from the 9th edition of PHTLS and delivers it in a 
 style that is relevant to and accessible by first responders\, including e
 mergency medical responders (EMR)\, firefighters\, rescue personnel and la
 w enforcement officers. Covering life-saving interventions such as hemorrh
 age control and airway management\, this course teaches critical trauma co
 ncepts\, demonstrates skills\, and walks students through potential patien
 t scenarios. Course materials include a student manual\, providing student
 s with access to these important concepts long after the course is over. U
 pon successful completion of this course\, students receive a certificate 
 of completion\, a wallet card good for 4 years and 8 hours of CAPCE credit
 .\nPHTLS TEXTBOOK &amp\; COURSE MANUAL REQUIRED\nThe NAEMT requires partic
 ipants to have the current 9th edition PHTLS-FR Provider Course Manual. Th
 ey are shipped to all participants that complete the registration process.
