
LVAD PATIENT CARE FOR FIRST RESPONDERS
This program is designed to deliver a comprehensive overview of the HeartMate II, HeartMate 3, and HeartWare Left Ventricular Assist Devices’ components and principles of operation. It will discuss topics related to assessing, stabilizing, and transporting HeartMate II, HeartMate 3, and HeartWare LVAD patients. This program is intended for First Responders to familiarize the participant with issues related to the management of LVAD patients in emergency situations. It will include both didactic and hands-on components to allow the participant to manage simulated emergency situations related to LVAD patients in the field.
Presented by Mark Puhlman is a Nurse Practicioner with extensive knowledge of cardiac transplant and Ventrical Assist Devices. He has spent years in the Pacific Northwest working with different VAD programs including Spokan Washington and the Providence VAD prgram in Portland. He is dedicated in bringinh education to prehospital providers about the prehospital care of Ventrical Assist Devices. Mark is married with 5 children.
